It's what's on the outside that counts...

Hey Bloggers,

Do you believe in not judging a book by its cover?  Do you think you never know a person before you know them?  Do you believe everyone has something to hide?

'It's what's on the outside that counts, as long as the inside doesn't taint it.'

Now, there are many types of people on this planet.  Some of them are very intricate, others are simpler.  This can be down to how open a person is about themselves.  I mean, where is there a problem when you have an answer?  What I mean by that is, the more open someone is, the less there is to solve as you have all the answers.  Now, with people like this, I believe they don't have an inside as you know them for who they truly are.  People who hide things from us do have an inside.  Though, if the inside is bad, but the outside is good, does it really matter what’s within?

A lot of us claim people change as we know them.  I reckon, we just know people better and become tired of them.  Their 'true colours' shine!  However, there are some people on this Earth that will never ever reveal their true feelings on an issue or they may never reveal something we may find shocking about them.  Maybe it is a really strong prejudice or belief they have about something?  Either way, if we don't know about it, it is not going to harm us, is it?  Why should people bother trying to dig and dig into people to find their flaws - which we all have - if otherwise they are not actually going to show them?

Some people just want to solve puzzles in life.  They like to know everything about anything.  I will admit to being one of those, I will not go to bed unless I have worked out a problem.  Though, when it comes to people, I have learnt there is only so far you can actually go.  You can lay awake all night trying to put reason to an action they have made and come up with nothing!  This is because you don't have enough values.  For you mathematicians, it is like trying to solve an algebraic equation with two or more unknowns - you can only guess and have infinite possibilities.  Sometimes, I believe it is just best to accept the person for what you know.

Would this scenario affect you?  Pretend you are a good friend of mine.  I haven't ever told you what I believe in before, but this is it.  I believe that sitting in the clouds is an old man called Jim.  Jim has a very special guitar which he plays.  Jim's mood reflects in the type of music he plays.  And the type of music he plays is reflected by the weather.  I think if you pray to Jim, he will play you a song and make the weather appropriate for you - we may not understand the reason for the song he has picked, but he knows as he can see the full outcome.  Now, I never actually tell you this but, three times everyday - during my free time - you notice that I go into a quite spot and start humming as that is how I communicate with Jim.

If you knew that, you may think me mad.  You may change your opinion of me drastically, lose faith and trust in my judgement and maybe even question other things I do.  It is therefore probably best you didn't know I believed in that - maybe for my sake, it is better I told a white lie about being a Christian?  Right this second, you may be thinking, well that is a bit deceitful, and isn't it?  It may very well be, but it has protected our relationship and possibly many other things – like my career and documented mental status.  You can't miss what you've not ever had people say a lot.

So what do you think?  Is it best to just know everything about everyone, or are some things best left untold?  Leave a comment below and follow me here or on Twitter@

  3. Differing opinions are great still! I don't mind any feedback - it all allows me to see how people generally think and expand my little bubble :D. I am glad you read all of my posts and thank you for those kind words :).

  4. Strangely I agree. What a person thinks is unimportant; it's actions that count.

  5. Actions are more important than thoughts are but it's our thoughts and underlying intent that initiates our actions. What's on the inside is communicated in some way or another to the intuitive and perceptive. I base this on the knowledge that between 60 - 80% of all human communication is broadcast in our body language, gestures and facial expressions.

  7. You are funny... Do you have a documented mental status? LOL, I think everyone does.
I believe when you make connections with people in general, friends, girlfriends or family, if the connection is true they will know and understand you without a word said. Deep down, we always know who our friends are and what their intensions towards us as well, we also know who those people are on the inside. It's our intuition.
I never have to judge a book by it's cover, the book always reads it self to me.

  8. I don't think there is a right or wrong way... it is up to the person to decide if they would like to tell their secrets to others.

I am an open book myself. Not because I don't have any secrets, but simply, I decided to tell my secrets to everyone. Whoever comes over to me and is willing enough to at least try and understand, then they are the people who really matter. Then again, this is on the basis of trying ot find "real friends"

When it comes to a professional relationship, I always have a filter that I turn on in case I say something appropriate. After all, I think that if I were to tell my boss that I used to fancy Simba from Lion King, that might not go down quite well. LOL.

Then again, actions do speak louder than words... If people accept the words and the actions... even better!

    PS. I love this post.x :)
